M-DAT Leads Social Media Workshop at FSTML
October 2009: M-DAT was represented at the annual Fellowship of Short-Term Mission Leaders (FSTML) conference October 14-17 in Atlanta by David Armstrong, M-DAT's Director of Agency Services. Executive Director Peter Armstrong twice presented a workshop remotely, with David's assistance: Using Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube Effectively in Short-Term Missions.
The workshop offered tips and ideas for using social media in recruiting, raising support, training teams, communicating on field, debriefing, and following through with short-termers. It was the only workshop with two sessions.
Peter lead the workshop from the M-DAT office via video-conferencing technology. Despite the technical problems with the video feed, attendees offered positive feedback. Of the 100 conference attendees, about 40 participated in the workshop, between the two sessions.
The theme for this year's conference was The Road Ahead: A crucial look at the future of short-term mission.
